Spend the Day in MBK
Plane Boy's Birthday
29.09.2013 - 29.09.2013
31 °C
Sound the trumpets, Plane Boy is forty! After a leisurely start we had a very nice buffet breakfast in the hotel restaurant. (For those in the know, the bacon was dead crispy!) Then we packed a bag, left our room and walked around to the outdoor entrance to MBK, ready for the 10am opening. Amid welcome announcements, piped music and salutes from the uniformed door staff, Plane Boy made his grand entrance into MBK.
So many shops! We started on the ground floor and it only took us a few hours to reach the sixth floor... And Dr Zu, the king size menswear shop Plane Boy has been anticipating most of all. Nerdia sat and chatted with the shop assistant while Plane Boy bought up big: 20 items for A$224, bargain! His old Dr Zu shirts have only just started to wear out after five years of constant wear, so well worth it.
Had planned shabu shabu lunch in one of the many restaurants but the line was huge, so opted for another Japanese place instead. Mm, oishi desu.
We bought a few (dozen) DVDs plus some small electronics and bracelets for Nerdia, then back to the hotel for a pit stop... Where a surprise birthday cake was waiting for us, courtesy of the hotel staff.
Later in the evening we made the metres-long trek back to MBK for dinner one one of the two dining floors. Plane Boy's a-roi pad Thai cost A$2 and his extra-large Singha beer cost A$4 Nerdia's soup was good apart from the mysterious grey meat balls, but her coconut dessert was delicious.
We window-shopped 'til we almost dropped, then back to our room for a rest after a birthday to remember. Hurrah!
